Welcome to Yardley

The river-front community of Yardley Borough is a quaint hidden gem between Philadelphia and New Jersey, along the Delaware River, offering historic houses on quiet streets. While the town is small, it’s certainly not lacking in entertainment or other creature comforts, including restaurants, shopping, and more. Additionally, its prime location makes Philadelphia, Trenton, and even New York City easily accessible.  

Having been founded in 1682, the longevity of Yardley has led to houses in a variety of architectural styles, from Georgian to Craftsman. Most have been restored and updated, but the historic atmosphere remains, drawing in history buffs. Lower Makefield Township makes up the majority of Yardley and contains most of the developments and housing.

Local Lifestyle

Yardley, despite the variety of attractions, is a quiet town perfect for those who need a retreat from the busy city atmosphere. People of all seasons of life love the close-knit community and regular special festivals that draw out the whole town. 

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

The Yardley Inn is a staple in town, located in a building from 1832 and popular for dinner, where each dish is prepared with fresh ingredients. Enjoy classic recipes, such as crabcakes, burgers, and of course, the famed Philly cheesesteak. The Continental Tavern, built in 1877 and renovated in 2007, is another beloved restaurant with an extensive menu of sandwiches, chicken pot pie, and fish and chips.

For internationally-influenced dishes, head to Charcoal which overlooks the river, and enjoy salmon with cashew cream, kung pao cauliflower, and schnitzel. After dinner, Yardley Ice House is the best place to satisfy your sweet tooth with fresh ice cream in blueberry, mint chocolate chip, mango, and other classic flavors.

Things to Do

For a minute of reflection and meditation, visit the Garden of Reflection in Memorial Park, two-and-a-half acres dedicated to all of the victims of the September 11th attacks, particularly the 18 Bucks County victims. The space is carefully designed to promote peace, hope, and life, making it the perfect place to take a calming moment.

Shady Brook Farm offers entertainment for the whole family, from the fresh farm market to their seasonal events like the Holiday Drive through Light Show, with firepits to roast s’mores and enjoy hot chocolate at Christmastime. During the fall, they have hayrides and pumpkin picking, and summer brings acres of strawberry picking. With animals, plants, a cozy pub on-site, and  Uncle Dave’s Ice Cream, there’s enough to keep everyone occupied for the whole day, no matter the time of year.

Hikers and bikers will want to head to Delaware Canal State Park, where they can hike the Towpath, 50 miles of trail alongside the canal linking Yardley to New Hope and beyond. The path is easy enough that beginning hikers will enjoy taking on a portion of it, but the distance can challenge more experienced hikers.

Yardley is served by the Pennsbury School District, whose students have high rates of proficiency in math and reading.
