Welcome to New Hope

The artsy town of New Hope is a popular weekend destination outside Philadelphia. Located on the Delaware River, the town is home to riverfront restaurants, unique boutique shopping, and plenty of visual arts.

New Hope has a long history, having originated as a ferry station in the 18th century, and is possibly the spot where General Washington overnighted with his troops before the infamous Crossing of the Delaware River during the American Revolution. In the following century, the town grew when the railroad arrived, and it soon became a hub for the shipping of goods. Now the town is known for its arts-related residents, a booming LGBT scene, and a quaint and cozy atmosphere.

New Hope is artsy, eclectic, and friendly. As a small town, residents know each other, forming a tight-knit community, and with the sheer number of actors, artists, and writers that have originated here, it’s no surprise that visual arts, from painting to theater, are a big part of the local culture. Over the years, New Hope has accepted people from all walks of life, leading to a diverse and warm community where anyone can find a place to fit in.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

The Salt House is one of New Hope’s popular restaurants, housed in a stone building from 1791 and serving grilled artichokes, sea scallops, and pumpkin ravioli. Odette’s offers a beautiful view for diners, who can choose from delicious dishes including tender filet mignon, cioppino, and beignets with lemon and ricotta for dessert. Karla’s has delicious food and is set in a beautiful brick building with ivy growing up the side. Nearby, Havana’s has been a New Hope staple forever and is great for enjoying a drink during the summer on the outside patio.

For a more casual meal, hit the Burgerly, offering an array of gourmet burgers, including their spicy shrimp burger, as well as hot dogs, sandwiches, and a saucy brisket roll. Nektar’s menu features light dishes, like a maple bacon grilled cheese and salad with smoked duck breast. Finish with decadent triple mousse cake. They also have an incredible wine selection, and their outdoor seating feels like you’ve stepped into a fairytale, thanks to a stunning willow tree that cascades along the bridge.

The newly renovated Logan Inn is a great place to eat, drink, and gather in its cozy dining room, but it’s especially popular for Sunday Brunch. On the banks of the Deleware River, Stella features panoramic views and an extensive wine list. The Ferry Market is the best place to stop if you want a vibrant atmosphere and tons of options. They have an eclectic list of vendors offering incredible food and fresh ingredients. Another must-visit favorite is Triumph Brewery,  where you can partake in their many draft beer options, order a delicious burger, and often listen to live music.

Things to Do

Take a ride on the New Hope Railroad, where trains take scenic trips to Ivyland through farmland and past historic sites. The rides are themed for holidays, with their most popular being the Polar Express throughout the holiday season, which provides extra-magical experiences for the whole family. They also have the popular Grapevine Express and book out for private parties aboard the train.

The Peddler’s Village is a local attraction with a storybook feel and beautifully cultivated gardens, a small fair, restaurants, and shopping. The space is also home to special events throughout the year, including their popular Apple Festival, Holiday Lights at Christmas, an annual gingerbread house contest, annual scarecrow contest, and murder mystery days.

Bucks County Playhouse may be one of the most important landmarks in the area as a theatre where many plays are screened before hitting Broadway. Some of the finest live theater actors have graced the stage, including the incomparable Bernadette Peters, Alan Alda, Bea Arthur, and Dick Van Dyke. The annual Shad Fest is hosted by both Lamberville and New Hope. The bridge across the river connects both towns, and it’s an easy walk from one to the other.

New Hope is served by the New Hope-Solebury school district, a district that hosts some of the best schools in Pennsylvania.
